Rensselaers School of Architecture serves as a magnet for some of the most innovative thinking that is going on in the field today. Leading practitioners are often on campus for lectures workshops and symposia. Architecture Central IMMERSIVE LEARNING There always seems to be some fascinating workshop or conference going on at Rensselaer. Consider the SmartGeometry Workshop and Conference which Rensselaer hosted in 2012. This annual event held previously in Barcelona and Copenhagen is the premier gathering of the generative design community committed to new-age technology in architecture today. The 2012 conference titled Material Intensities Simulation Energy and Environment featured 10 selected clusters from around the world including three Rensselaer-led groups as they presented findings on such leading-edge matters as acrylic roof environments that actively respond to the presence and configuration of people in a room bio-responsive polymeric fabrics that are designed as clothing algorithmically designed ceramics that differentially respond to environment electropolymeric displays that act as bio-responsive building envelopes and parametrically designed grid-shells that are constructed at full-scale.
