Applying your skills and knowledge helping out your community and having unbridled fun all in one fell swoop Thats CANstruction a national competition in which lofty structures are made entirely out of cans of food. After the structures are built the creations go on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the event all food is donated to local hunger relief organizations. Rensselaer students comprise the only student team to compete in the Capital Regions CANstruction event which is held yearly at the New York State Museum. Dillon Webster 15 led a team of 13 students in last years event. The teams were charged with recreating a scene out of classic literature and the Rensselaer group chose Alice in Wonderland. Alice was shown upside down falling down a rabbit hole with miscellaneous mushrooms and teacups surrounding herall constructed out of cans. Im personally interested in anything around architecture that has to do with a social aspect said Webster now an architectural coordination intern at Method Homes in Seattle. Im fascinated by how people interact with spaces and how spaces interact with people. CANstruction DILLON WEBSTER 15 Learning better ways to communicate was another value I took away from CANstruction. And then of course we helped the hungry. communities 20
