Rensselaer is pioneering the education of the future.
Interactive learning is more than a concept at Rensselaer; it’s a reality that’s been infused throughout all of our undergraduate disciplines.
In more than 25 studio classrooms, students are engaged at wired workstations utilizing Web-based technologies, full-motion video, computer simulation, and other laboratory resources.
Instructors and teaching assistants observe and coach while students download notes with a simple mouse-click on their laptops.
An Award-Winning Approach
Rensselaer is the only university recipient of the prestigious “triple crown” of higher education awards — the Hesburgh, the Boeing, and the Pew Charitable Trust awards for innovation.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching report, Reinventing Undergraduate Education, has cited Rensselaer’s studio classes, and literally hundreds of institutions have visited Rensselaer to study these classroom innovations.
Always Looking Ahead
The same thinking that enabled Rensselaer to initiate Interactive Learning is the same mindset that has driven educational innovation since 1824.
The Anderson Center for Innovation in Undergraduate Education was founded in 1990 with the continuing mission of making Rensselaer a leader in state-of-the-art pedagogy.
More recently, the Rensselaer Academy of Electronic Media has become the spawning ground for highly creative visualization software that enables students to learn scientific and engineering principles in ways never before possible.
