History of American Science
Examines scientific thought and institutions in the United States from the 18th to 20th centuries. Emphases on the interrelations between science and society from Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson to explorations of the West, the American reception of Darwinism, the Scopes Monkey trial, growth of the scientific-military-industrial complex, and the bomb. Prerequisite: STSH-1110/ STSS-1110 or one course in American history or permission of instructor. Annually.
