Sociology of Medicine
This course explores the contributions of social science to the field of medicine. Following an historical and methodological introduction, the student follows the patient through the five stages of illness and medical care. Topics at each stage are discussed from the viewpoint of the patient, the medical care giver, and the health system. Students are encouraged, by means of a term paper, to explore areas that particularly interest them. Prerequisite: STSS-1210 or STSS-2100 or permission of instructor. Spring term annually.
