Structure and properties of crystalline ceramic materials. Atomic bonding, crystal structure, structural imperfections, nonstoichiometry, surfaces, and interfaces. Reactions in ceramic systems in terms of phase equilibria, nucleation and crystal growth, diffusion, grain growth, and sintering. Ceramic microstructures and various properties. Spring term.
