Critical Reactor Laboratory

Theory and operation of a low-power critical reactor facility: reactor layout, instrumentation, shielding, controls, hazards, problems of start-up and shutdown, and operating parameters. Approach to criticality, operating procedures, kinetics. Measurements are made of neutron flux, fuel rod worth, radiation, and various reactivity effects. Prerequisite: MANE-4480. Spring term annually.
