Lining Up

Students participating in the Commencement ceremony should plan to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. at Edgehill Terrace, located at the north end of the East Campus Athletic Village directly below Stacwyck Apartments. Once you arrive at the line-up area, there will be signs and volunteers stationed there to direct you to the correct location. Students will line up by school, degree and major (alphabetical within your major).

Seating Options

For Commencement seating, you will have the option of seating on the Field (at the same level of the stage), or in elevated seating in the Stadium. There will be 5,700 guest seats available on the Field and 3,800 seats available in the Stadium.

As you enter the East Campus Athletic Village, you will need to decide which seating option is preferable for you so the ushers can direct you.

Both seating areas will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ceremonial Behavior and Protocol

Commencement is a special event for all involved. Please show respect for everyone who has come to share the experience.

  • Show respect for your fellow graduates by remaining in your seat until the Recession.
  • Turn off cellular phones in the East Campus Athletic Village Stadium, or in the Houston Field House.
  • Professional photos will be taken as each student crosses the stage.
  • Guests attending Rensselaer’s 2013 Commencement are advised that bags, backpacks, luggage, coolers, parcels, briefcases, and like articles will be strictly prohibited from the East Campus Athletic Village. Guests may be subject to search of their person and/or possessions. Guests with prohibited articles will be requested to return them to their vehicle.
