The Ceremony
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 207th Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in the stadium at the East Campus Athletic Village.
Guests attending Rensselaer’s 2013 Commencement are advised that no large handbags/purses, backpacks, luggage, coolers, parcels, briefcases, and like articles will be allowed at the Commencement Ceremony.

In the event of severe weather, the ceremony will be moved inside the Houston Field House. Please note that the campus video sites will not be open unless the ceremony is moved inside.

Tickets for the Ceremony were distributed on May 9, 2013 during Status Check.
Missed Status Check?
You can pick up your tickets at the Registrar’s Office Tuesday, May 14 until Wednesday, May 22 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Each graduate will receive seven tickets to the East Campus Stadium. In inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Houston Field House. Three of the seven tickets, colored red, will allow guests into the Field House. The remaining four tickets, colored gray, may be used at closed-circuit television viewing locations.

Lining Up
Students participating in the Commencement ceremony should plan to arrive no later than 7:30 a.m. at Edgehill Terrace, located at the north end of the East Campus Athletic Village directly below Stacwyck Apartments. Once you arrive at the line-up area, there will be signs and volunteers stationed there to direct you to the correct location. Students will line up by school, degree and major (alphabetical within your major).
Seating Options
For Commencement seating, you will have the option of seating on the Field (at the same level of the stage), or in elevated seating in the Stadium. There will be 5,700 guest seats available on the Field and 3,800 seats available in the Stadium.
As you enter the East Campus Athletic Village, you will need to decide which seating option is preferable for you so the ushers can direct you.
Both seating areas will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ceremonial Behavior and Protocol
Commencement is a special event for all involved. Please show respect for everyone who has come to share the experience.
- Show respect for your fellow graduates by remaining in your seat until the Recession.
- Turn off cellular phones in the East Campus Athletic Village Stadium, or in the Houston Field House.
- Professional photos will be taken as each student crosses the stage.
- Guests attending Rensselaer’s 2013 Commencement are advised that bags, backpacks, luggage, coolers, parcels, briefcases, and like articles will be strictly prohibited from the East Campus Athletic Village. Guests may be subject to search of their person and/or possessions. Guests with prohibited articles will be requested to return them to their vehicle.
Regalia Policy
Rensselaer abides by the rules of the Intercollegiate Bureau of Academic Costume; however, members of nationally recognized academic Honor Societies may display approved insignias on the standard academic regalia.
All insignias must be pre-approved for display by Prabhat Hajela, Office of the Provost. Request letters for approval of insignia should include the name, address, and telephone number of the National Honor Society; a description of the insignia including its size; and where it will be worn on the standard Rensselaer academic regalia.
