Sustainability and the Rensselaer Community

Groups and Organizations

GreenCorps

The GreenCorps an all-volunteer transitional group formed at Rensselaer after the Fall 2008 Sustainability Charrette. The purpose of GreenCorps was to bring together a small, agile body that had participants from all parts of the Institute — students, faculty, and staff, including senior members of the administration — who would help to coordinate projects that came from the charrette that were of interest to other groups at Rensselaer. The intent is that once an Office of Sustainability is established, GreenCorps will transition to a campus-wide support group for the assistance of the Sustainability Coordinator.

Ecologic

Ecologic is the environmental club at Rensselaer, aiming to make progress toward a greener world and educate the community about environmental issues. EcoLogic operates out of the Environmental Education Center (EEC) in the Games room of the Student Union.

Student Sustainability Task Force

The Student Sustainability Task Force (SSTF) is a student-led organization devoted to promoting sustainability throughout campus by collaborating with various clubs, faculty, staff, and administration. We work to integrate sustainability into all aspects of campus life, including education, research, operations and culture.

Terra Café

This full service, sit-down restaurant is committed to serving local and organic foods. The Terra Café started as a student initiative first “cooked up” by members of Ecologic, the environmental group on campus, and then turned into a PDI project in business planning.

Engineers for a Sustainable World

Founded in 2002, Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is building the next generation of engineers, teachers, learners, and communities. The student chapter of ESW at RPI is dedicated to promoting sustainability both at home and abroad.

Vasudha

A living and learning community designed to bring together first-year undergraduate students from all fields of study with a shared interest in the relationship between the Earth and those life forms present on our planet. This is a one-year, freshman experience only.

Green Greeks

Members of the 31 fraternities and 5 sororities at Rensselaer are leading a sustainability effort on campus with their “Green Greeks” vision and plan.

Solar Car Racing Team

The Solar Car Racing Team is a team of students dedicated to promoting an interest in solar energy among students on campus and within the Troy community.
