Second Annual RPI Spirit Day a Success
The second annual RPI Spirit Day was held on Friday, Feb. 1, in conjunction with Big Red Freakout weekend. The entire Rensselaer community was encouraged to wear their Rensselaer gear to work, school, or play and show the world their Rensselaer pride. Judging by the response, there is a lot of Rensselaer spirit out there!
More than 120 photos were submitted for the Spirit Day Photo Competition—more than double the response from 2012. Alumni were asked to share pictures of themselves or their group showing their RPI spirit via social media or email. “The numbers from this year showed amazing improvements over last year,” said Jeff Schanz, assistant vice president for alumni relations.
“Instagram submissions tripled this year, and
numbers were up for Twitter and Facebook as well. Over 50 photos were sent by email.” Group shots came from companies, Greek organizations, campus departments, and student groups. Some were family
photos, many were from individuals, and others
included props like dogs, flags, RPI degrees, hockey gear…even an airplane!
“Many thanks to the members of the campus community who participated, including everyone who submitted a photo, the Bookstore for providing Spirit Day sales, SEFCU for a special giveaway for those who wore RPI gear, and to everyone who helped to make the day a success,” said Schanz.
