Big Red Freakout Ice House Tradition Continuesspacer

On Saturday, Feb. 2, more than 350 alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members gathered at the Heffner Alumni House for the Big Red Freakout Ice House. The celebration was made more enjoyable when Rensselaer blanked Dartmouth in front of a packed Houston Field House by the score of 3-0.

The annual Ice House tradition features a pre-game
buffet dinner and pep rally, complete with a visit from
Puckman and the RPI Pep Band, and face-painting
services provided by the Red & White Student Organization. Fans were invited to return to the Heffner Alumni House post-game for drinks, desserts, and snacks, and the chance to meet the team and coaching staff.

A men’s hockey alumni reunion also took place during Freakout weekend. Forty-five former players returned to enjoy lacing up their skates for the alumni game and to reconnect with teammates. They were able to meet with the current coaches and team, and were feted in an on-ice ceremony on Saturday night during the game, which also featured a special recognition of hockey alumni who passed away during the past year: Red Bliss ’38, Larry McMullen ’61, and Ron Moreau ’70.
