De-Neita Peoples Added to Athletics Department Staff

Through an NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant, De-Neita Peoples has joined the Rensselaer athletics staff. She has a two-year appointment as the assistant to the associate athletic director for communications and compliance.

“My great interest in student support through intercollegiate athletics is what drew me to Rensselaer,” Peoples said. “Here at RPI, I have the rare opportunity to combine my passion for sports and law while gaining experience in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics. I am eager to contribute to a team of athletic staff that is committed to enhancing the college experience for all students.”

Peoples brings with her over six years of leadership experience, specifically in student relations. Prior to Rensselaer, she worked at the University of California, Santa Cruz, providing a support system for residential students as a community adviser. In her role, she provided counseling, mentorship, and organized educational programs for a diverse student body.

Most recently, Peoples worked as a law clerk at the law office of Ebony Cavalier and as a student attorney for the juvenile legal clinic of Southern University Law Center. In both positions, she provided legal representation and support for clients in need of wills and trusts, as well as family and criminal law.

Peoples received her J.D. from Southern University Law Center, and her bachelor’s in political science from UC Santa Cruz.

The NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant Program funds a two-year internship that focuses primarily on compliance, athletic communications, and special events for Rensselaer’s 23 intercollegiate varsity programs.

This NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant Program runs from 2013 to 2015. Rensselaer is a multidivisional institution that competes in the Liberty League for its 21 Division III athletic programs, and ECAC Hockey for the two Division I programs.
