Cozzolino Nominated to AFCA Good Works Team

Student-athlete Joe Cozzolino has been nominated for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team based on his ongoing efforts in the community. The award recognizes a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to enriching the lives of others while contributing to the greater good of their communities.

Cozzolino, a native of Chatham, N.Y., is entering his senior year at Rensselaer. In his time in Troy he has been a willing participant in every community service project the football team has been associated with. He read to elementary school children on multiple occasions; helped coordinate donations of money and canned food that produced over 1,100 items for donation to the Salvation Army around Thanksgiving; and volunteered to serve an Easter dinner at the Italian Community Center in April. He has also volunteered with a Habitat for Humanity building project and participated in a Special Olympics event as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Cozzolino also assisted in the set-up for a campus-run Employment Fair.

On the field the Chatham High School graduate plays tight end. In his career, he has 23 receptions for 285 yards and three touchdowns. He has a 92 percent blocking percentage and has also been a standout on special teams, recording five tackles, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He has also been a game captain for the Engineers.

Since 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team has honored college football players at all levels of the sport for their selfless acts of giving back to the
community and off-the-field achievements. These student-athletes represent the sport’s finest in the areas of volunteerism and leadership among their peers.
