Ivy Muchuma Named Field Performer of the Year
The Liberty League has announced its year-end honors for the women's indoor track & field season and Rensselaer student-athlete Ivy Muchuma was tabbed as the Field Performer of the Year.
A sophomore who hails from Nashua, N.H., Muchuma was the Liberty League champion in the shot put (11.78m), and placed second in both the weight throw (14.85m) and the triple jump (10.85m). She also won the state title in the weight throw (15.26m), and was second in the shot put (12.10m) at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) Meet.
Additionally, Muchuma placed sixth and eighth in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, at ECACs. The Liberty League and NYSCTC Indoor Field Performer of the Meet, she was also a three-time Liberty League Field Performer of the Week.
The former Nashua North High School standout had an outstanding sophomore campaign, finishing 10th or better in 17 of the 18 events she participated in over eight meets.
During her freshman season, Muchuma was second and third in the triple jump and weight throw, respectively, at the Liberty League Indoor Championships. She also excelled during the outdoor league meet, placing third in both the hammer throw and the javelin.
