Take Part in American Heart Association
Rensselaer will be a sponsor of the annual
American Heart Association's HEART WALK at the Crossings in Colonie on May 12. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in this long-running event, as well as some on-campus
fundraising events preceding the walk.
Since 1924, the American Heart Association has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the ravages of heart disease and stroke. These diseases, the nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers, claim more than 910,000 American lives a year. The association invested nearly $474 million in fiscal year 2004-05 for research, professional and public education, advocacy, and community service programs so people across America can live stronger, longer lives.
From March 19 until April 13, an employee group supporting the effort will conduct a Yankee Candle sale.
This same group will also conduct a Mother's Day plant sale from April 12 until May 1, and will conduct a bake sale in the Student Union lobby April 12.
On May 3, the employee group will hold a special luncheon in Russell Sage Dining Hall, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information on all of the events related to the Heart walk, contact Operations Specialist Patti Mugrace at email@example.com or 276-2874.
"This is an important health-related effort and we're trying to encourage more staff and faculty to get involved," said Paul Martin, assistant vice president for administration. "We're also hoping that by getting word around now, groups of employees in various
portfolios can get together and form teams for the
May 12 walk."
Rensselaer employees interested in participating in the walk can contact Mugrace, or visit the Heart
Association website at www.capitalregionheartwalk.org
