| Congeros are known for their commitment to rhythm and the drum as the medium for communication. Founded in 2004 by Eddie Ade Knowles, former vice president for student life and a professor of drumming at Rensselaer, Ensemble Congeros is an outgrowth of the interest and passion of Rensselaer students who excelled in Knowles' course Introduction to Afro-Cuban Percussion and who wanted to continue "chasing the rhythms." The group, dedicated to the study of Afro-Cuban, African, and New World percussion, has played to audiences throughout the Capital Region, and has become a favorite guest at the Arts Center. The group will celebrate the release of their new DVD, Ensemble Congeros: Chasing the Rhythms, on Saturday, March 31, at 8 p.m. at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, located at 265 River Street in Troy. Tickets are $15/$12 members, which includes a copy of the CD. For more information, call 273-0552 or go to artscenteronline.org. |
