ECAV Energy-Saving Efforts Earn Recognition From NYSERDA
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has given Rensselaer a High Performance Building Plaque for energy-saving investments that will reduce energy use and save the Institute $223,513 annually.
The recognition involves Phase 1 of the East Campus Athletic Village (ECAV), which opened in 2009. NYSERDA helped support the construction with $404,491 in incentives. The project’s energy-efficiency improvements included high-efficiency lighting, demand control ventilation, variable speed drives on a cooling tower fan, fan motors, and water pumps.
“The reduction of energy usage is a key strategic goal for us at Rensselaer, as part of our overall sustainability efforts. We’re delighted to receive this recognition from NYSERDA and we look forward to continuing to make smart, targeted decisions and investments that will lessen our impact on the environment,” said Claude Rounds, vice president for administration.
