Celebrating a Milestone
On Sept. 18, the nation’s youngest service, the United States Air Force, turned 65. To celebrate the milestone, Rensselaer’s Air Force 550th Cadet Wing took time to honor individuals who have served as well as those currently serving during a formal Air Force ball. During the program, invited guest speaker Lieutenant Colonel David Jurk, commander of Det 550, paid tribute to individuals who exemplified the detachment motto, “Team 550 – Forging Warrior Leaders.” Discussing conflicts that spanned from World War II to Sept. 11, Colonel Jurk shared inspiring stories of men and women who put their lives on the line to selflessly protect the lives of others. While it was a festive occasion, the event also served as an opportunity for attendees to reflect upon those who had lost their lives, while at the same time celebrating those individuals who dedicated their lives to the United States of America.
