Traditions Continue With Reunion & Homecoming Weekend

Rensselaer’s largest alumni tradition takes place Oct. 5-7, as a crowd of more than 3,000 alumni and guests is expected to take part in Reunion & Homecoming festivities. Members of the campus community are welcome to attend a majority of the programs and events.

Some of the highlights include:

“Rensselaer at 200: Refreshing The Rensselaer Plan” with President Shirley Ann Jackson
Friday, Oct. 5, 2 to 4 p.m., EMPAC Concert Hall.

A panel of Institute leaders moderated by President Jackson will discuss the updating of The Rensselaer Plan with Rensselaer alumni.

Greek ChowderFest
Friday, 6 p.m., Rensselaer Society of Engineers

Current Greeks are invited to join with Greek alumni for a reception and friendly competition to see which house makes the best chowder.

Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Department of the Arts and 30th Anniversary of the Department of Science and
Technology Studies.

Mars Curiosity Program
Saturday, 9 a.m., EMPAC
Dean Laurie Leshin and alumni members of the NASA Rover Curiosity team will discuss the science behind the rover and the study of its findings. Alumni panel members include: Kobie Boykins ’96, staff mechanical engineer, Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Michael Meyer ’74, lead scientist, NASA’s Mars Exploration Program; and Frederick Serricchio ’94, senior staff engineer, NASA.

FanFest
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., ECAV

This carnival midway will include food, performances by Rensselaer’s student a cappella groups, games, and more.

Physics Magic Show
Saturday, 11:45 a.m., ECAV

Mad scientist Aidyl Gonzalez-Serricchio ’94 presents outlandish and visually stunning physics and chemistry demonstrations with audience participation. Fun for scientists of all ages!

Reunion & Homecoming will also have a presence on social media, both leading up to and during the weekend.
