Dancing With the RPI Stars

As part of Grand Marshal Week this year, the RPI Ballroom club hosted “2011 Dancing with the RPI Stars” in East Campus Athletic Village Auxiliary Gym. In this all-new event, faculty and staff were paired with student members of the RPI Ballroom club in a competition of ballroom showcases.

Hosts for the evening were Michael Zwack and Katie Alexandridis. Judges were Jean Purtell (operations coordinator, Rensselaer Union), Geoff Seber (associate advancement officer, Alumni Relations), and Jennifer Volpe, owner of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Latham, N.Y.

The performers were: Ash Kapila (professor, mathematics) and Jennifer Lippens; Bram van Heuveln (clinical assistant professor, cognitive science) and Ali Kennicutt; Christina Lowery (assistant dean, ResLife) and Jon Botts; Heidi Newberg (professor, physics) and Jed Williams; Sanmay Das (assistant professor, computer science) and Nicole Piché; Shannon Hitchcock (assistant dean, ResLife) and Ian Pryor; Mary Gleason (assistant dean, ResLife) and Jay Zhang; Mike Spitz (2010-11 PU) and Kim Mohs; and Timothy Wei (department head, MANE) and Olivia Lau.

Bram van Heuveln and Ali Kennicutt (grad student in RPI Ballroom) were chosen as winners. The $300 raised in front-row seat sales went to their charity of choice, the Menands Animal Shelter.
