AFROTC Team Participates in Drill Competition

Earlier this month, the Silver Falcons Honor Guard, representing the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Detachment 550 at Rensselaer, took first place in the 52nd Annual Villanova University Drill Competition. As the only AFROTC honor guard competing against 16 other Naval ROTC units as well as drill teams from the Naval and Merchant Marine Academies, the Silver Falcons faced intense competition.

Commanders Cadet 3rd Class Stephan Icso and Cadet 3rd Class Rebecca Concors demonstrated outstanding leadership by preparing the honor guard team for an exemplary performance and leading them to their second first-place finish this year, according to senior officers. The latest win at Villanova follows the team’s winning streak as they were also recognized for their efforts during the March 5 Drill Meet competition at Rensselaer, where they outperformed 11 other AFROTC honor guard teams.

“These accomplishments are the result of significant dedication and commitment to long hours of practice several days each week,” said Cadet 3rd Class Marcus Fairchild, a member of the Silver Falcons Honor Guard Team. “While the road was long and difficult, the friendship and memories developed along the way will never be forgotten.”
