Rensselaer Community Honors Rick Hartt ’70

Members of the Rensselaer campus community — including students, faculty, staff, and alumni — sent Rick Hartt ’70, longtime managing director of the Rensselaer Union, off in style before his upcoming retirement. For nearly 33 years, Hartt has served as a permanent fixture in the lives of students and alumni at Rensselaer. On Feb. 25, a campuswide celebration featured poignant remarks by Grand Marshal Benjamin Hunt ’11 and President of the Union Mike Spitz ’11; a moving “Praise Song” — a traditional African-American song — by Eddie Ade Knowles, vice president for student life; and a heart-felt series of honors and certificates presented to Hartt by John Kolb ’79, vice president for information services and technology and chief information officer. In addition, there were special tributes from several alumni who were either colleagues or students during Hartt’s tenure at Rensselaer. Hartt was also honored during a special celebration on Feb. 26 in the RPI Playhouse that featured student performance groups.
