Entrepreneur of the Year Speaks
Sean O’Sullivan ’85, co-founder and managing director of Avego Corporation, was selected as the 2011 William F. Glaser ’53 Rensselaer Entrepreneur of the Year. He accepted the honor and spoke to the campus and local community at the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies during Reunion & Homecoming weekend last month.
Established in 1990, the William F. Glaser ’53 Rensselaer Entrepreneur of the Year Award brings the world of entrepreneurship into Rensselaer classrooms by recognizing successful entrepreneurs and role models who share their wisdom and experiences with students.
O’Sullivan spoke candidly about his successes and failures in launching high-tech startups, and offered a few words of advice to future entrepreneurs. The annual event is sponsored by the Paul J. ’69 and Kathleen M. Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship and the Lally School of Management & Technology at Rensselaer.
The Severino Center is seeking nominations for the 2012 recipient. If you know of a Rensselaer graduate who has achieved great success in his or her industry, consider nominating him or her. According to the Severino Center, “success means having built an enterprise or series of enterprises that have brought value to the marketplace, through either technical or social change.” Email your nomination to SCTE@rpi.edu by January 30.
