Remembering Sept. 11

Rensselaer will mark the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a memorial service. With flags lowered to half-staff, the program — to be held on Sunday, Sept. 11 — will begin promptly at 9 a.m. with the singing of the national anthem by the Rensselyrics, while members of the ROTC Color Guard from each of the military branches at Rensselaer present the flags. A moment of silence will follow.

Featured speakers will include: President Shirley Ann Jackson, Vice President for Student Life Timothy Sams, and Grand Marshal Lee Sharma. In addition, chaplains Iman Djafer Sebkhaoui and the Rev. Beth Illingworth will also participate.

The event will take place on the Rensselaer Union lawn. Following the program, light refreshments will be served on the Rensselaer Union patio. In the event of rain, the program will be held in the Alumni Sports & Recreation Center (Armory) gym.

For the past 10 years members of student organizations, service clubs, and Greek life fraternities or sororities have partnered with the local American Red Cross organization to host a blood drive on campus on Sept. 11. This year, the event will be sponsored by Phi Gamma Delta and Alpha Gamma Delta. The blood drive will be held in the Mueller Center lobby from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
