Recent Staff Promotions and Appointments
Kevin Beattie, sports information director, has been named associate athletic director for communications and compliance in athletics. Beattie was hired as sports information director in 1998. He also served as acting athletic director during the 2007-08 season. His current responsibilities include corresponding with the NCAA as Rensselaer’s compliance officer for each of the school’s 23 sports, including both Division I hockey programs. He also oversees five of the Institute’s athletic programs as well as the sports information aspect of the department. Beattie earned an MBA from the Lally School of Management & Technology in 2005. He has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Oneonta State.

Jennifer Fisher has been named director of research finance. Fisher has been serving as acting director since February 2009. Prior to that, she was the associate director of the research finance office for six years. She brings more than 10 years of experience in various research administration roles to her new position. Fisher has also been serving as one of two campus representatives to the Federal Demonstration Partnership. She has a master’s degree in public administration from the Sage Graduate School and a bachelor’s degree in general management from Southern New Hampshire University.

Jack Huang has joined the Office of Research as grant director. Huang will assist in developing, coordinating, editing, and writing large-scale and strategic grants, submissions for professional recognitions, and more. Huang received a Ph.D. in chemistry with thesis work done in a cross-disciplinary program sponsored by Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at Northwestern University. After graduating, Huang worked as a research scientist at GE Global Research, developing next-generation solid-state lighting. He also has experience as a chemist, participating in drug discovery projects. He joins Rensselaer from Precursor Energetics, where he was employed as a material scientist, working in the field of renewable energy. He has been author and co-author of 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and two book chapters and holds three issued patents and 17 patent applications.
