Half the Sky Authors Speak
Members of the Rensselaer campus and surrounding community, along with Emma Willard students and staff, attended a lecture on Feb. 23 titled Women, Power, and Opportunity: A Morning with Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, co-authors of the New York Times best-seller Half the Sky.

The book, which documents the stories of women and girls who have suffered excruciatingly under their society’s feudal attitudes toward women, also carries a message of hope, optimism, and opportunity. In 1990, Kristof and WuDunn won the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square democracy movement, making them the first married couple to win a Pulitzer Prize for journalism.

The program was held in the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center Concert Hall. The event was sponsored by the Emma Willard School.
