2010 Flaherty Lecture: Turing Award Winner Barbara Liskov

Renowned computer scientist Barbara Liskov, Institute Professor at MIT and associate provost for faculty equity, will present the 2010 Joseph E. Flaherty Lecture. Liskov is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She received the ACM Turing Award in 2009 for her pioneering work in the design of computer programming languages that are a foundation for virtually every modern computing device. She was named one of the 50 most important women in science by Discover magazine. The title of her talk will be “The Power of Abstraction.”
The event will be held Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies auditorium at 4 p.m. A reception will be held prior to the event in the lobby starting at 3:15 p.m.
