Student Orientation
Members of the Class of 2013 are making their final preparations to attend Rensselaer this fall. More than 1,350 first-year students and more than 1,990 parents and other family members attended a series of two-day orientation programs held on campus during the months of July and August.

The program, developed by Rensselaer’s Office of the First-Year Experience (FYE), included general orientation information, advisement, registration, and an introduction to Rensselaer’s computing system. Students and their families had an opportunity to learn more about Rensselaer and meet and talk with other students, parents, faculty, and members representing various campus offices.

Earlier this week, Rensselaer officially welcomed members of the incoming Class of 2013. The first-year students moved into residence halls and began a weeklong program of welcome events and team-building adventures, known as “Navigating Rensselaer & Beyond,” held Aug. 25-30. The program serves as an official continuation of Student Orientation. The events are designed to help ease the transition to college life by connecting new students to each other and to resources available on campus and in the local community.

Some of the week’s events included: overnight trips to the Adirondacks and Connecticut; volunteer opportunities with local organizations including the Latham Regional Food Bank Farm, Habitat for Humanity, the Susan Odell Taylor School, and Big Brothers, Big Sisters; and a number of student clubs, including the RPI Players, musical and dance groups, martial arts, and more.
