Tech Valley FIRST Robotics Showcase Exhibition
More than 200 area high school students competed in teams as part of a practice robotics demonstration for the upcoming FIRST Robotics competitions. The practice event, held on Feb. 14, was hosted by the Rensselaer Technology Park. Over the last few weeks, students have worked in teams to design, construct, and program robots to perform complex engineering challenges.

During the practice demonstration, teams competed against other robots in timed sessions. A total of seven teams participated in the exhibition event. For the FIRST competitions, students (working with mentors) have six weeks to design, build, program, and test their robots to meet the season’s engineering challenge. Once these young inventors create a robot, their teams participate in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration, and the determination of students.

More than 42,000 high-school students on 1,686 teams from the U.S., Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Turkey, and the U.K. are participating in this year’s competition.
