Rensselaer hosted the first Military Appreciation Night on Jan. 16 at the Houston Field House. The event was set up to recognize the three ROTC branches on the Rensselaer campus, as well as to honor all military personnel who are currently serving or who have previously served the country. All military personnel who provided their military ID to the box office received free admission to the men’s hockey game against Colgate.
Special elements of the night included a presentation of the colors, recognition of local military personnel who have re-enlisted, a decorated USMC Humvee, and on-ice competitions between periods. Members of the three campus ROTC branches competed on skates where they had to put on a jersey, hockey pants, and gloves before shooting the puck into the opposing net.
Another highlight of the evening for the more than 250 military personnel in attendance was the Engineers’ victory, 3-2, in overtime over the Raiders. |
