Fellowship sponsors Michael Herman ’62 and wife Karen hosted the annual Herman Family Fellows Reunion Nov. 6 at the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Rensselaer’s current Herman Fellows Cara Jones ’01 MBA ’09 and Victoria Kruse MBA ’11 attended, along with Lally Assistant Dean Jill Terry. The reunions allow current and former Herman Fellows to network and discuss their entrepreneurial efforts, and also include a panel of visiting female entrepreneurs. Rensselaer Trustee Michael Herman ’62 earned his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from Rensselaer and his MBA from the University of Chicago. According to David Gautschi, dean of the Lally School, “Mike Herman is one of the Institute’s leading supporters of developing an entrepreneurial mindset as a way to complement the education of Rensselaer students and as a way to help them to think, learn, and succeed.” Herman is currently serving as president of the Herman Family Trading Company. From 1992 to 2000, he was president of the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club. From 1990 to 1999, he was chairman of the Finance and Investment Committee of the Kauffman Foundation and was its president from 1985 to 1990. “Developing female entrepreneurs has been dear to our family. All of us, in our own way, have an entrepreneurial spirit,” said Herman. |
