This year, 118 students participated in the program. The visitors included students from the Capital Region, all of the New York City boroughs, and Long Island. Students also came from Alabama, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Several Rensselaer Union student organizations participated in the program including the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, African & Caribbean Student Association, Alianza Latina, the Black Student Association, the Society of Women Engineers, Women’s Mentoring Program, Phi Iota Alpha, Philippine American League, Sigma Delta, Sigma Lambda Upsilon, National Organization of Minority Architecture Students, the Rensselyrics, Rusty Pipes, and Kappa Alpha Psi. Gil Valadez ’02, who also served as Grand Marshal during his time at Rensselaer, came back to campus and delivered the welcome and keynote address to the STAR students. The opening event was held in the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center. |
