The participants included: two recent graduates from the mechanical engineering program at Rensselaer’s Hartford campus, Nathaniel Barnett, M.S. ’08, and Jessica Lyn Michalski, M.S. ’09; current Hartford student James Nathan Streeter, who is studying toward an M.S. in mechanical engineering; and Ernesto Gutierrez-Miravete, clinical associate professor, Department of Engineering and Science at the Hartford campus. Rensselaer was well-represented by papers that were included in the proceedings of the conference, which are distributed to a community of thousands around the world. Gutierrez-Miravete co-authored the following papers: “An Analysis of the Heat Conduction with Change of Phase with Application to the Solidification of Copper” with Michalski, “An Analysis of Skimboard Hydrodynamics” with Barnett, and “A Study of Lubricating Flows in MEMS [microelectromechanical] Bearings” with Streeter. Barnett works for General Dynamics Electric Boat in Kingston, R.I. Streeter and Michalski are both in Connecticut, with Streeter employed at Optiwind, while Michalski is at Hamilton Sundstrand, a division of United Technologies Corporation.
