Terra Café Wins First Place in Annual Troy Chowderfest Event
Terra Café, a Rensselaer student organization that dishes up a weekly selection of local and organic meals, desserts, and beverages on the Rensselaer campus every Wednesday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in the Russell Sage Dining Hall, is also gaining recognition within the local community. Last month, the organization won first place in the 2009 Troy Chowderfest event for their saffron corn chowder recipe.

The event featured samples from about 30 area restaurants, with a range of flavors from vegetable to New England to Manhattan, among others. Participants were required to use only local ingredients from area farms in their chowder.

Last year, Terra Café presented the “Farmer’s Market Sampler” event that featured several signature snacks, desserts, and beverages from the market.
