Rensselaer Capital Campaign Reaches Goal Nine Months Ahead of Schedule
The Lally School of Management & Technology continues to host the Innovation Series, a weekly dialogue series exploring new and emerging ideas in the world of management and business. The series focuses on “Doing Business in an Era of Significant Change” and showcases innovation in diverse fields, including finance, technology commercialization, energy, information technology, healthcare, media, and ethics.

The program scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, will be “Innovation in the Business of Media: Understanding the Transformations in the Media Industry.” The event — to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. — will be held in the Center for Biology and Interdisciplinary Studies auditorium. Rensselaer students, faculty, alumni, staff, and members of the surrounding community are invited to attend.

According to T. Ravi Ravichandran, associate professor in the Lally School, who will serve as the program moderator, the media industry is undergoing a radical transformation driven by technological changes as well as changes in the habits of how people access information.

“The convergence of different media formats is blurring the traditional boundaries between print, radio, television, and online media. Moreover, the revenue streams and cost structure of media organizations have changed causing them to rethink their long-standing business models,” said Ravichandran.

A distinguished panel of accomplished media executives will seek to explore these issues, and have a broad-ranging discussion on the forces shaping the media industry and the innovative ways in which organizations are adapting. The panel discussion will take place from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m.

Featured panelists will include: Robert Altman, president, WMHT, Albany; Alan Chartock, CEO, WAMC, Albany; Michelle Manafy, editor of Econtent Magazine;

Michael Miller ’79, senior vice president for technology strategy at Ziff Brothers Investments; and Rex Smith, editor and vice president of the Times Union, Albany. A Q&A session will follow immediately after the panel discussion. The event will conclude with a reception that will provide attendees with a networking opportunity.

Registration is required to attend. To register and for more information regarding upcoming Innovation Series programs, visit
