Renowned author Russell Banks gave remarks and presented awards to winners of this year’s McKinney Contest, an annual writing competition open to students. Banks has won numerous awards for his work, and his novels Affliction and The Sweet Hereafter have been adapted into major motion pictures. The McKinney competition awards prizes to the top three undergraduate and graduate entries in the categories of fiction or drama, poetry, essays, and electronic media.
The contest is administered and judged by the members of Rensselaer’s Department of Language, Literature, and Communication. |
