Focus on: Grand Marshal Week
Last week, the campus was alive with students and members of the Rensselaer community participating in a series of weeklong special events to celebrate student life, government, cultural diversity, and the performing arts, in all-Hollywood style.

Grand Marshal Week 2008, a week of campuswide celebrations and student elections, was held March 28-April 4. This year’s theme, “Hollywood: A Red Carpet Affair,” focused on “discovering the star in you” and celebrating student life at Rensselaer. Highlights of the week included a comedian and game show, athletic tournaments, a film festival, various dance and music performances, and chances to drive a fuel cell car and play laser tag. The events concluded, Oscars-style, with “A Red Carpet Affair” semiformal and election results.

The Grand Marshal, or GM, is the highest elected student official in student government. The newly elected GM, Kara Chesal ’09, is responsible for managing the Student Senate and also acts as the liaison between the student body and the administration of the school. Robert Odell ’09 will serve as the President of the Rensselaer Union, presiding over the Executive Board, the budgeting group of the Union. Home to more than 160 clubs, sports, and organizations, the Rensselaer Union is one of the only student-run Unions in the country.
