Update On Paid Time Off Initiative
The Division of Human Resources continues to evaluate a Paid Time Off (PTO) system to revise the Institute’s existing leave program in order to strengthen Rensselaer’s employee-friendly work/life initiative.

Significant progress has been made in evaluating the feasibility of transitioning Rensselaer’s current leave program to a PTO program. The division has obtained diverse perspectives through several campus focus group meetings and the formation of a PTO Advisory Group comprised of both faculty and staff.

The following guiding principles have been developed from focus and advisory groups’ input:

  • Link to Rensselaer’s Total Compensation
  • Assist in attracting and retaining staff
  • Ensure equity and fairness for all staff
  • Provide staff with more control and
    flexibility of their usage
  • Ensure social and fiscal responsibility
  • Provide privacy of usage
  • Provide comprehensive level of security for staff
  • Provide a family-friendly, practical, and easy-to-understand benefit
  • Enhance Institutewide productivity

The Division of Human Resources will continue to communicate with members of the community throughout the coming months regarding the progress and development of the PTO initiative, scheduled for implementation in FY ’08.
