Jeffrey Miner Named AVP for Information Services
Jeffrey Miner ’78, formerly director of integrated administrative computing services (IACS), has been appointed assistant vice president for information services in the Division of the Chief Information Officer (DotCIO).

Miner joined Rensselaer in 2001 as the director of IACS. In this role, he has had oversight responsibility for all administrative computing systems at Rensselaer and technical operational responsibility for the Banner transaction processing system, the Rensselaer Data Warehouse, and other key administrative systems. For the past six years he has also been an adjunct professor for Information Technology where he has taught a course titled “Managing Information Technology Resources” and for the last two years, he has been a co-chair of the faculty and staff Annual Fund.

Before joining Rensselaer, Miner had a 23-year career in private industry with Bell Labs, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, where he held staff and management positions in applied research, product development, business management, information technology, and program management. His formal education includes an M.S. degree in computer science from Stevens Institute of Technology, a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer, and an A.S. degree in engineering science from Hudson Valley Community College. He also holds a U.S. patent in microcomputer memory architecture.

In his new role, Miner will collaborate with university leaders in the information planning and implementation necessary to accomplish Institute goals and objectives. This position assists the vice president with administrative and financial functions, and the overall direction for the Division of the Chief Information Officer to enable an environment that ensures robust information use and integrity at the Institute. The focus of this position is directing the Information Services portion of DotCIO, which includes the Rensselaer Research Libraries, Academic and Research Computing, and Integrated Administrative Computing Services.

“Jeff Miner brings a wealth of talent and experience to all of these tasks, and I know he will continue to be a major asset to the division and the Institute,” said John Kolb ’79, chief information officer.
