Rensselaer Capital Campaign Reaches Goal Nine Months Ahead of Schedule
Rensselaer’s ICE in Focus program will be held at the Troy campus Dec. 8 and 9. This two-day course introduces innovation as an emerging management function. Organizational competencies necessary for breakthrough innovation, which drive new business creation, will be presented and discussed. The program highlights the role leadership teams play in defining the strategic innovation agenda, introduces a roadmap for building an innovation capability, and describes management processes that are appropriate for the high uncertainty domain of breakthrough innovation projects.

Executives will share their experiences, diagnose their organizations’ “capacity for innovation,” and plan courses of action to improve their management systems for breakthrough innovation. The keynote speaker will be Angela Biever, chief administrative officer, Raymond James Financial. Biever is the former vice president of Intel’s venture capital investments New Business Ventures group. Facilitators will be Gina O’Connor, associate professor of marketing in the Lally School of Management and Technology, and Joanne Hyland, president of the Radical Innovation (RI) Group.

The target audience for this course includes strategy leaders, technology leaders, chief innovation officers, and innovation portfolio managers — those executives responsible for the sustained occurrence of game-changing innovation in their organizations. The ICE in Focus course is the introduction to Rensselaer’s Innovation and Corporate Entrepreneurship (ICE) program. ICE is an in-depth corporate engagement that promotes building a disciplined approach to innovation, to drive organic growth and corporate renewal. Participation in ICE links leadership and project management in the innovation process through the implementation of structural, organizational, and management frameworks for new business creation. The ICE instructional model focuses on strategic clarity and uncertainty reduction during project discovery and incubation, and transition into the new product development process.
