Rensselaer Alumni Association 2008 Award Winners
Each year, the Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA) Awards Program recognizes contributions by alumni, parents, faculty, and friends in every area of volunteer work. The 2008 RAA Award winners were recognized at a ceremony on campus during Reunion weekend.

“All of this year’s honorees are to be congratulated for the positive impact they have had on the Rensselaer community. We are proud to be affiliated with this outstanding group of individuals,” said Jeff Schanz, assistant vice president for alumni relations. Following is a list of the award winners:

Distinguished Service Award
This highest award recognizes truly distinguished service to a profession, to the nation or to humanity: Harry Apkarian ’46.

Albert Fox Demers Medal
Established to recognize and to stimulate interest in the welfare of the Institute by alumni or friends: Thomas Baruch ’60, Robert Bozzone ’55, Bob Forman ’61, and Brian McManus ’61.

Alumni Key Award
Recognizes outstanding service in support of Rensselaer’s advancement by alumni or friends: Mark Anderson ’79, Claire Fraser-Liggett ’77, David Gertler ’83, ’84, E. Rex Krueger ’57, Chester Martine Jr. ’58, G. Nagesh Rao ’02.

Teaching Award
Designed to recognize members of the Rensselaer faculty for their outstanding teaching techniques, contributions to the campus experience, and commitment to students: Bruce Piper, associate professor of mathematical sciences.

Director’s Award
Presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the Rensselaer Alumni Association and to the Office of Alumni Relations during the past year: John Ericson ’50, Roger Grice ’87, Jacqueline Masloff ’75, and Roger Mike ’70.

Alumni Admissions Recognition of Excellence Award
Recognizes outstanding service by alumni to the undergraduate admissions effort: James Murphy ’66.

Chapter of the Year Award
Recognizes the outstanding programs and activities of the regional alumni chapters: Rensselaer Chapter of Washington, D.C./Baltimore–G. Nagesh Rao ’02, president.

Chuck Monis ’50 Most Improved Chapter
of the Year: Rensselaer Chapter of Dallas–John S. Hamilton ’73, president.

Special Chapter Recognition
Rensselaer Chapter of New Jersey and Rensselaer Chapter of Northern California.
