Rensselaer Music Association Hosts End-of-Semester Performances

As the semester comes to an end, several Rensselaer Union student music organizations will hold their final performances for the fall 2007 semester. Rensselaer students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community are invited to attend the performances that are organized by members of the Rensselaer Music Association (RMA).

The programs scheduled for December include:

Dec. 2: The Rensselaer Concert Choir Winter Concert. The choir will host an evening of multicultural holiday music and more, including works from the Renaissance to contemporary composers. The event will be held in the Chapel + Cultural Center (C+CC) beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 4: The Rensselaer Symphony Orchestra will perform under the direction of David Gibson, clinical professor of art. Though starting from humble beginnings, the orchestra now boasts more than 70 highly talented Rensselaer students and performs challenging music from classical, romantic, and contemporary periods. The event will held in the Heffner Alumni House beginning at 7 p.m.
Dec. 8: The Rensselaer Music Association will host its annual holiday concert. The two-concert program will be held in the Rensselaer Union McNeil Room beginning at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Dec. 9: The Rensselaer String Quartet presents its year-end concert at 6 p.m. at the C+CC.

Members of the Rusty Pipes, one of Rensselaer’s a cappella singing groups, will perform at various campus and community events during the coming weeks. The group will perform during Troy’s Victorian Stroll at the Flavour Café located in downtown Troy on Dec. 2. In addition, the Rusty Pipes will hold their 11th Annual Pipe-A-Thon in the Darrin Communications Center (DCC), room 308, on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature the latest songs by the group, and guest performances by other university a cappella groups.
