Rensselaer Retiree Medical Benefits
The Division of Human Resources, in partnership with Medicare and CDPHP, continues to provide eligible retirees (age 65+) with affordable medical and prescription benefits.

In today’s climate, many employers are either reducing benefits, increasing premium costs, or, eliminating medical and prescription plans for retirees. Rensselaer has announced a reduction in retiree medical and prescription cost for the Group Medicare Choice HMO Plan and additionally, will now offer a new CDPHP Preferred Provider Organization Plan.

The 2008 monthly premium for the Group Medicare Choice HMO Plan is $105.30, which reflects a monthly premium reduction of 47 percent.

The new Preferred Provider Organization Plan will be offered to eligible retirees who reside in the 24-county service area at least six months during each calendar year. A key provision of this plan is to provide out-of-network benefits for eligible retirees who reside in the service area at least six months of each calendar year. The 2008 monthly premium for the Preferred Provider Organization Plan is $34.90, a savings of 82 percent from the 2007 HMO monthly premium. Additionally, eligible retirees may also receive a Rensselaer subsidy based on years of service.

To ensure that all Rensselaer eligible retirees have an opportunity to enroll in one of these plans, the Open Enrollment Period has been extended to Dec. 21, 2007.
