On Sept. 27, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering honored the legacy of celebrated chemical engineering professor Michael Abbott ’60 by dedicating a pair of benches and a plaque in his memory. Located outside the Ricketts Building, near Abbott’s former office window, the benches serve as a reminder of Abbott’s habit of “sitting and talking with anybody,” according to Rose Primett, department assistant. Abbott, who devoted more than 35 years to Rensselaer as a teacher, researcher, and student, died May 31, 2006. The dedication was attended by his wife, Mary, son, Mark, and two sisters, as well as many faculty, staff, and students.
