Inside Rensselaer, October 11, 2007: Rensselaer’s 2007 United Way Campaign Under Way

In 2006, Rensselaer led the way among area colleges and universities with the highest average gift and highest employee per capita gift, ranking third in employee giving, second in the Top 50 Honor Roll (which includes both employee and corporate giving), and first in leadership giving. Last year, through these efforts, the Institute contributed nearly $147,000 to the United Way of Northeastern New York, which is now known as the United Way of the Greater Capital Region.

Rensselaer will hold its second annual United Way Community Fair
on Wed., Oct. 17
from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Rensselaer Union.

This year’s United Way Campaign at Rensselaer takes place Oct. 10-26, and the Institute has set a goal to increase participation and to make an even larger donation. Plans are currently under way to raise funds through employee donations and a variety of activities and events, including candy sales and a cell phone turn-in.

As an additional means of raising funds, Rensselaer will hold its second annual United Way Community Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 10:30 a.m. until
2:30 p.m. in the Rensselaer Union. At the fair, several Rensselaer staff members will be selling their handmade crafts, baked goods, and jewelry, as well as items such as Avon products, Capital District entertainment coupon booklets, farm-fresh eggs, Longaberger baskets, and Mary Kay cosmetics. There also will be a dunking booth and free fried dough.

Rensselaer’s 2007 United Way committee coordinators are Cynthia McIntyre, President’s Office; Kim Cardillo and Tanya Rautine, Office of the Vice President for Research; Cindy Novak, Provost’s Office; and Lecia O’Dell, School of Architecture.
