"What I Did on Summer Vacation"

Rensselaer’s newest students, the Class of 2011, were given a fun assignment even before they arrived on campus in August.

The first-year students received a red Rensselaer pennant in the mail and were challenged to submit a photo of themselves doing something fun, crazy, or goofy this summer accompanied by the flag.

With photo entries ranging from scuba and sky diving with the pennant to riding roller coasters and posing with baseball’s Boston Red Sox mascot, the students sent in a variety of creative, original, and surprising photo moments from their summer vacation.

All the photos were displayed in the Admissions Office, and Student Orientation advisers reviewed the entries and selected 10 photo finalists. Members of the Class of 2011 voted on the winner among the top 10 during the “Navigating Rensselaer & Beyond” events held the week before classes started.

The winner, skydiver Garrett Harms, received a $250 MasterCard gift card.
