On May 30, Samuel Heffner Jr. ’56 (at right), chairman of the Rensselaer Board of Trustees, hosted a reception to honor President Shirley Ann Jackson for receiving the National Science Board’s prestigious Vannevar Bush Award for a lifetime of achievements in scientific research, education, and senior statesman-like contributions to public policy. More than 260 guests, including alumni, family, and friends, attended the reception in Washington, D.C. National Science Foundation Chairman Arden Bement Jr. (at left) was among the speakers who delivered remarks at the event. Outgoing RAA President Robert Forman ’61 and William Walker, vice president for strategic communications and external relations, also brought congratulatory remarks. The National Science Board is an independent body of policy advisers to the president and Congress on matters of science and engineering research, and is the policy-making and oversight body for the National Science Foundation. |
