March 1, 2008

Whereas, the Board of Trustees of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, maintaining its fiduciary duty and obligation to the faculty and students, relative to the academic function of the University, must assure the quality of the Promotion and Tenure process, and the quality of Curriculum; therefore,

Be it resolved, that the Board of Trustees affirms the principles of faculty rights and privileges, as provided in the Faculty Handbook, which principles are separate and distinct from any document which may establish and govern any specific form of faculty governance. Specifically, the Promotion and Tenure, and Curriculum review processes shall operate independently of any newly established, or reestablished, form of faculty governance. The President shall provide for the appropriate representative members of any such committees to be selected for the implementation of the Promotion and Tenure, and Curriculum review processes.
