A university community is really a collection of several overlapping and mutually supportive communities.
The campus community of students, faculty, staff, administration, and trustees thrives as part of a series of larger neighborhood, city, and regional communities. They, in turn, are supported by a broad national and international community of business and professional partners, friends, and 85,000 Rensselaer alumni including 15,000 from Rensselaer in Hartford all working together as one Rensselaer.
Rensselaer draws vitality from all of its communities, and adds vitality to each of them. By striving to be an enthusiastic economic and civic partner, Rensselaer prospers and so do the larger communities that surround it in the Capital District and Southern New England.
Rensselaer’s aspirations for greater prominence as a world-class technological research university begin and end at home. A vibrant local communitya reputation of Troy and the Capital Region as an area where bright, hardworking people live and work and where exciting things happenallows Rensselaer to attract top students, faculty, and staff. As we bring to the region the best minds and talents, we strengthen the university intellectually and financially. That, in turn, allows us to do more for the local community, generating through research and innovation the intellectual capital necessary to form the businesses of tomorrow for the Capital Region.
Communiversity is good business and good education, a powerful partnership with far-reaching implications for our shared communities. Rensselaer’s commitment to responsible citizenship begins with its home community, and it has never been stronger.
