I have been on the faculty of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since August 2005. I am also an adjunct faculty of the Department of Decision Sciences and Systems Engineering program, member of the Center for Intermodal Freight Security and a member of the Center for Infrastructure and Transportation Studies at RPI.I'm a transportation network modeler. I lead the transportation networks research group at RPI. I am very interested in theory and applications of transportation. A recent summary of research and teaching activities can be found here. I teach transportation systems classes. I am a member of the Transportation Network Modeling committee at Transportation Research Board (National Academies). I am the Vice-Chair of the ITS Special Interest Group (SIG) at Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS). I am the Editor of Overview paper for the journal of Transportation Research Part-C (Emerging Technologies) and an Associate Editor for the journal, Networks and Spatial Economics .

- My brother, Ramesh Chandra, is a co-founder of Moka5, a virtualization technology start-up. He is also a PhD student in Computer Science at Stanford. He has a M.S. from UI, Urbana Champaign (2000) and a B.Tech from IIT Madras (1998).
- My eldest brother, Madhu Naresh Ukkusuri, is a Senior Systems Manager at CTS, a software engineering firm. He obtained his MBA from IIM Lucknow (1998) and a B.S. from Andhra University (1996).
